Move Concepts by Drag and Drop

Abstract

Move Concepts by Drag and Drop

If you want to move a concept or concept subtree to another place in your taxonomy, you can simply drag it into the Narrower Concepts section of the target position's parent concept, press and hold the Shift key, and drop it there. You can also drag, press Shift and drop the concept into a Top Concepts section of a concept scheme.

Procedure. The following steps will explain in detail how to move a concept to a different place in your taxonomy:
  1. Navigate to the place in your taxonomy where you want to move your concept. Expand your tree if necessary.

  2. Select the parent concept (1) of the target position.

The parent concept Rings has been selected.

  3. Click and hold the concept that you wish to move (2) and press the Shift key afterwards. An icon will appear on your cursor to indicate that holding the Shift key has an effect on the action. Additionally, the Details View of your selected concept should now highlight which relation assignment is possible.

  4. While holding Shift, drop the concept into the Narrower Concepts section (3) of the parent concept's Details View.

    Note

If the selected parent node is a concept scheme, you can drop the concept into the scheme's Top Concepts section.

The concept One Ring has been moved into the Narrower Concepts relation section of Rings.

This will open a Move Concept dialog box asking you to confirm or cancel the operation.

  5. Select Confirm to finalize the move action.

The concept has now been removed from its old position and added to its desired place in the hierarchy.

Note

Without pressing the Shift key the concept will not be moved but instead added to the new place in the taxonomy without being removed from its old position. This results in a polyhierarchy in the taxonomy tree.

You cannot only drag and drop concepts to create relationships to other concepts, you can also drag and drop a concept to the Alternative Label or Hidden Label area of another concept to merge two concepts.
