PoolParty Import Assistant

Guide on the usage and result handling of the Import Assistant to check and repair issues both for RDF and Excel import.

The PoolParty Import Assistant is available for every import of RDF or Excel data, if you activate the corresponding checkbox during import.

The data the Import Assistant checks has to be stored in a separate step in the project. Until that time the data will be available in the Import Assistant. Other changes to the project are not possible as long as the data has not been stored.

Prerequisites for Using the Import Assistant

  • An opened PoolParty project.
  • A started RDF or Excel data import.
  • Make sure to set the check mark for Import Assistant in the import dialogue for RDF and Excel data (checked by default).

Access the PoolParty Import Assistant

To access the Import Assistant, in your opened PoolParty project, follow these steps:

  1. In the projects Details View click Quality Management.
  2. Select the Import Assistant tab.

The Import Assistant offers a number of functions by using the buttons provided. A description of the buttons and their functions find in the table below.

After you have started the validation process, additional information will be displayed and additional buttons are available. Details find below.

Import Assistant Functions

Recheck

Clicking this button triggers the checks done by the import assistant. The import assistant checks for:

  • data compliance to RDF and SKOS standards
  • compliance to PoolParty Semantic Suite's standards
  • Excel data compliance to the PoolParty Excel format

Using this button will display a dialogue window with a progress bar for the check's status.

Cancel Import

Cancels the import: All imported data and repaired data will be gone.

The export is always possible, regardless of corrupt data being still present or not.

If all three export options are unchecked, only the not yet validated import data present will be exported.

Export

You can export the imported data to several formats and destinations. Click to open a new dialogue.

The following formats and locations are available, choose from the drop down:

  • Formats: N3, N-Quads, VDEX, Trix, Binary-RDF, MultiThes, RDF/XML, Turtle, N-Triples, RDF/JSON, Trig, JSON-LD
  • Locations:
    • Download (depending on the selected format, a file will be offered for download.)
    • Store on Server
    • Export to <database> (depending on the database you use PoolParty with)

You can also select what data to include or exclude by setting check marks, choose all or some of these options:

Users: Includes user URIs in the exported RDF data.

History: Exports the history of the import and the actions performed on it.

Validated Data: Only data that has been checked, repaired or not, will be included.

The export is always possible, regardless of corrupt data being still present or not.

If all three export options are unchecked, only the not yet validated import data present will be exported.

Store Repaired Data

Stores imported and repaired data.

After you have repaired or deleted all affected data, you can finalize the import using this button.

Be aware that you cannot make any changes to your project (e.g. SKOS conversions, concept linking), if you are using the Import Assistant and have not finalized the import by using Store Repaired Data or cancelling it.
PoolParty in this case will display an error message to that effect.
